Judging Auto Assign Tips

Auto assign judges to projects
First step — math: Multiply total projects in the round by how many times each should be judged.
You can get the project total at the bottom of the auto assign tab.
Example: 70 projects × 4 judgments = 280 total assignments. 280 ÷ 40 judges = 7 projects per judge if assigned equally.
Preferences are rarely equal
Looking at judge preferences, load is rarely even (e.g. only 3 judges prefer Chemistry when you need a 4th coverage). With No Mix, the system prefers one category per judge and works down the list — inconsistencies can over-assign some areas.
Recommended approach
- Use auto assign with No Mix (or your preferred mix setting) for the heavy lifting
- Manually reassign projects from judges with too many to judges with too few
- Allow a few mixed-category judges if needed to hit your target (e.g. 7 each)
Manual-only assignment can take hours for large rounds. Auto assign does the bulk of the work; you fine-tune.
