You can schedule a time for your judges and students to meet, and our system will make it easy, secure, and safe to connect. You don't have to share zoom links or worry about student going to the wrong meeting. When organizing a virtual contest there are two methodologies to organize your contest.

In Online Judging when a judge selects an entry to judge assigned or one they found. Judges can simply click a button that reads "Enter Judging / Interview Room". Then they click this button they will be placed into this projects virtual judging booth. If it is a team project the judge may encounter multiple students.

This works best on computers, laptops, or larger tablets where as 1/2 the screen will be the video conference and the other 1/2 will contain the rubric and other materials.

Auto Plop

Auto Plop allows you to cut out the stress of scheduling and just stick with the fun stuff. It does this by taking a student who has indicated they are ready to be judged and pairing them with a Judge who has indicated that they are ready to judge a project. You don't have to worry about who showed up and who didn't because the system just handles that for you. It doesn't pair students with the same judge twice (judge must have a submitted rubric for the project for this to be true), it works off of a first come first serve basis and includes added oversight tools so you can see who is in line and how long they've been there in the Judging Dashboard.

To Enable Auto Plop go to Staff -> Fair Setup -> Settings -> Premium Features -> Online Judging -> Auto Plop Settings
All of the other configurations are there as well making it easy to set up all in one place.

Video Gate

This feature was initially created to prevent students from being alone in a room with only a single judge. This is a protection measure for both sides. Unfortunately it has proven quite tricky to make work 100% of the time and as such we aren't sure as to the future of this feature at this time.
  • NOTE: While it does work for the most part we cannot yet guarantee that users cannot get around it. No other video providers offer a similar feature and we understand why that is the case. We'll see what we can do but it may not be much just yet. Hopefully future enhancements and capabilities will make this a full reality some day.
Staff -> Fair Setup -> Settings -> Premium Features -> Online Judging -> Video Judging don't allow student to be alone with one judge
Staff -> Fair Setup -> Settings -> Premium Features -> Online Judging -> Judge can override the video gate
  • This was an additional setting put in place per client request but note that this gives a very easy way to completely nullify most benefits offered by Video Gate

Chat Functionality

If wanted or needed you can enable a chat functionality inside each of the video rooms. This turns on all chat features including private chat. This isn't going to be an issue in most cases but if that is a concern you can disable this setting to have all chat features removed.
: Staff -> Fair Setup -> Settings -> Premium Features -> Online Judging -> Video Judging enable chat feature including private chat

Hide Student Mute All

Typically this won't be an issue as students wanting to be judged won't mute their judges but in the rare case you don't want them to even have that option you can enable the following setting.
: Staff -> Fair Setup -> Settings -> Premium Features -> Online Judging -> Hide student mute all button

Student Present in Room Indicator

This allows judges to quickly see which rooms have students present and which don't. This is mostly just informational but will some day be expanded to allow judges to know when an interview is still in progress so they don't interrupt anyone by accident.
